Boyle warned after airport mop dance

Boyle warned after airport mop danceSusan Boyle sparked complaints from travellers on Tuesday after she reportedly began singing into a mop in a bizarre scene at London's Heathrow Airport. The Scottish singing sensation was said to have stunned travellers by dancing and belting out songs into a mop head in a first-class lounge, while awaiting a flight to Chicago, Illinois to film a segment on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Airline crew later asked the star to quiet down after she began shouting obscenities, according to The Sun. A source tells the newspaper, "It was chaos. Susan was very restless and agitated from the minute she walked in and immediately started making a scene. She was singing and dancing around, shouting obscenities at full volume." A spokesperson for British Airways confirms, "A customer in the BA lounge on Tuesday was asked to temper their behaviour as it was becoming disruptive." Boyle was forced to dismiss reports about her fragile mental health in November after she was snapped sobbing and sucking her thumb after a performance in New York. She was famously admitted to London's Priory clinic in May suffering from exhaustion, just days after she came runner-up on U.K. talent show Britain's Got Talent

Simon Cowell's Haiti record

Simon Cowell is putting together a charity single in aid of victims of the Haiti earthquakes. The music mogul is keen to help aid relief in the Caribbean state - which has been ravaged by 2 earthquakes in the past 8 days, leaving hundreds of thousands dead - and decided to recruit an all star cast to record a charity single to raise money. Speaking at the National Television Awards (NTAs), he told BANG Showbiz: "It's very, very short notice. We made the decision today, so I've got to get it all together in about 48 hours. "It's going to feature as many people as possible. I haven't made up my mind on the song yet, I've got a couple of ideas. It will be a cover version, yeah." The reality TV megastar added that while he hadn't made any calls to artists at the time, he would assemble as large a cast as possible for the single. This is expected to include artists from Simon's Syco record label - such as Susan Boyle, Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke - as well as the company's parent label, Sony, and other musicians the star is close to in both Europe and the US.

International record labels chase Jon Germain

Singer and Metro TV's AlloTigo host, Jon Germain is likely to soon be swimming in the international music scene with his new album 'This Is Who I Am'. Signals picked by BEATWAVES indicate that the tall man who calls himself 'Supremo' has started getting calls from record labels worldwide who want to sign him. A close source to Jon told this paper that the presenter, who released his first pop rock album on February 28 last year after so many years of preparation, received a call from EMI Records, a record label in the USA. Jon himself confirmed the news to BEATWAVES on Friday that EMI Records has expressed enthusiasm to sign him. He said he received a call from one Kenny Andam, from EMI Records' base in Los Angeles. He said however that he is not a position to comment about what they discussed. He will make that public when everything is finalized. Jon's album has been in the making since 1993 after he broke away from MGKK 4 in Ghana and the UK band Van Greene. His formative years as an artiste were shaped by listening to a lot of pop, rock and R&B music, his father's favourite genre. He started writing songs at age 12 and has written songs for MGKK 4 and Van Greene. Jon's musical influences are Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Bruce Hornsby, Richard Marx, Peter Cetera Frankie Paul and Michael Bolton. Many fans were surprised Jon could sing at all, let alone as impressively as he did on his album. At the album launch last year some fans doubted his ability so he had to sing to them before they finally believed that the soothing voice behind rhythms was his

Spotify boss Daniel Ek sets out future plans

Music streaming service Spotify has taken off in the past 12 months to become a hit with fans - seven million of whom have signed up in six European countries - and be touted by some as the future of the music industry. Of those seven million, about 95% are using the free service, which is largely funded by ads playing between songs. Some 250,000 have signed up to the premium service, which costs £9.99 a month in the UK, and lets fans listen on mobile devices, with no ads and better sound quality. Spotify founder Daniel Ek claims this is "the first time the number of subscribers has grown this dramatically, probably in the history of subscription". But is it enough to make the business work and pay an reasonable rate to artists, some of whom have publicly complained about the amount they receive? And when will the long-awaited US launch happen?

He is a bit wary of signing up with Cowell who is, of course, associated with X Factor and pop,' reveals the insider. Pattinson, 23, has previously said he will fall back on music if his acting career fails. Neither Pattinson nor Cowell has commented

Tech group to launch digital music file successor

"A leading technology company is set to launch a new digital music file format which will embed additional content for fans including lyrics, news updates and images in what could be a successor to the ubiquitous MP3 file. The music industry has been hammered by piracy in the last decade and is looking to develop new offerings to entice consumers to buy their music from legitimate sites, instead of taking it from illegal outlets. The new proposal, which is called MusicDNA and has the backing of the original MP3 digital music file inventor, would allow fans to download an MP3 file on to their computer, which would carry with it additional content. Music labels, bands or retailers could then also send updates to the music file every time they have something new to announce such as the dates of future tours, new interviews or updates to social network pages. The user would receive as little or as much of the information as they want, every time they are online. However anyone who downloads the music file illegally would receive only a static file which would not receive any updates. BACH Technology, the group behind the MusicDNA file, says it is looking to partner with retailers, music labels, rights holders and technology companies and is happy to provide its technology for others who could use it under their own brand"

RadioTuna

RadioTuna"RadioTuna is the first real-time search engine for online radio, giving up-to-the-minute results relating to the music being played across the globe right now. If you search for an artist that happens to be playing right now, we'll tell you and you can connect straight to that station. If your choice isn't playing right now, we'll tell you which stations are most likely to play them next. Our data illustrates the incredible range of music available on internet radio to a degree that has never been seen before, and it enables a whole new level of search accuracy. As you might have noticed, we profile stations by the music they actually play, not by the genres that they might use themselves. We've found that it's the only way to get consistently good results - if you search for stations playing 'funk', that's what you'll find (not stations that say they play funk but actually play soul, or those that play similar genres like 'funky metal'). The Tuna's uniquely nifty brain works out the 'genre profile' for each station, allowing you to know what to expect before tuning in. You spend less time trying out stations that you won't like, and more time enjoying the ones that you will"

Copyright Criminals

Copyright Criminals"Copyright Criminals examines the creative and commercial value of musical sampling, including the related debates over artistic expression, copyright law, and (of course) money. This documentary traces the rise of hip-hop from the urban streets of New York to its current status as a multibillion-dollar industry. For more than thirty years, innovative hip-hop performers and producers have been re-using portions of previously recorded music in new, otherwise original compositions. When lawyers and record companies got involved, what was once referred to as a 'borrowed melody' became a 'copyright infringement.' The film showcases many of hip-hop music's founding figures like Public Enemy, De La Soul, and Digital Underground - while also featuring emerging hip-hop artists from record labels Definitive Jux, Rhymesayers, Ninja Tune, and more"

Hendrix family, Sony to release "new" album

Jimi Hendrix fans will be able to hear around an hour's worth of music from their guitar hero never commercially available before when his family and Sony Commercial Music Group release a "new" album on March 8. "Valleys of Neptune" features studio recordings dating from 1969, the year before Hendrix died in London aged 27. "My brother Jimi was at home in the studio," said Janie Hendrix, head of Experience Hendrix LLC, the family-owned company set up to protect a legacy valued at tens of millions of dollars. "'Valleys of Neptune' offers deep insight into his mastery of the recording process and demonstrates the fact that he was as unparalleled a recording innovator as he was a guitarist. "His brilliance shines through on every one of these precious tracks." Valleys of Neptune will feature several songs familiar to die-hard fans from bootleg recordings, but there will also be more than 60 minutes of previously unreleased Hendrix music. The album will include covers of Elmore James' classic "Bleeding Heart" and Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" and performances of original Hendrix compositions like "Ships Passing Through The Night" and "Lullaby For The Summer."
