After 50 years, Motown endures in ailing Detroit
"Fifty years after the birth of Motown, the music lives on as a legacy for a city that has seen more than its share of hard times in the past decades. The Motown record label launched in January 1959 by onetime auto worker Berry Gordy with a loan of 800 dollars from his family became a worldwide phenomenon that still influences today's music."

Top 40 faces new digital shake-up
"The Top 40 is facing a shake-up as chart bosses consider incorporating songs from #music streaming sites. Offering free, legal access to millions of tunes, online jukebox services like We7 and Spotify have taken off in 2009. Users can listen to tracks without paying to own them, as they have had to with vinyl, tapes, CDs and downloads. The Official UK Charts Company said the Top 40 was "bound to" incorporate songs from streaming services at some point, but not for at least another 12 months" - BBC

Jury rules against Minnesota woman in download case (USA)
"A replay of the nation's only file-sharing case to go to trial has ended with the same result - a Minnesota woman was found to have violated music copyrights and must pay huge damages to the recording industry. A federal jury ruled Thursday that Jammie Thomas-Rasset willfully violated the copyrights on 24 songs, and awarded recording companies $1.92 million, or $80,000 per song. Thomas-Rasset's second trial actually turned out worse for her. When a different federal jury heard her case in 2007, it hit Thomas-Rasset with a $222,000 judgment. The new trial was ordered after the judge in the case decided he had erred in giving jury instructions" - Yahoo
