Britain's Got Talent star Shaheen Jafargholi 'destined for fame'

"His stunning performance on the final of Britain's Got Talent may not have been enough for a place in the show's top three, but Shaheen Jafargholi is already on the way to being the talent search's latest big-selling child star. The 12-year-old, from Swansea, lost out last night to an electrifying performance by dance act Diversity in the race to perform at the Royal Variety Performance, and scoop a first prize of £100,000. But industry experts say the pint-sized virtuoso can expect to earn at least that within a year, with an album deal likely to be reached soon with Simon Cowell's record label. Cowell has an option on all the finalists and he is expected to exercise it within weeks." - Wales Online

Woody Guthrie sings again, in his remastered voice"For decades, the original metal masters of Woody Guthrie's songs lay forgotten and stacked in cardboard barrels in a Brooklyn basement. Music labels cut friendlier deals with start-ups

"With CD sales dropping fast, it is not hard to imagine how the major #music labels could benefit from the growth of Web start-ups like Imeem. The company's service lets people listen to songs, discover new artists and share their favorites with friends. And in return, Imeem owes the labels licensing fees for use of the music. But two months ago, Imeem's founder, Dalton Caldwell, was ready to pull the plug. While 26 million people a month were using the service, Imeem owed millions of dollars to the music labels, and income from advertising was nowhere close to covering expenses. 'It reached a point where it was not even clear it was worth doing any more,' Mr. Caldwell said. Then the ground shifted. This month, Warner Music Group forgave Imeem's debt, and both Warner and Universal Music agreed to relax the terms of their licensing deals with the site. That allowed Imeem to raise more money from investors and plan for a profitable future" - NYT

US warns of TV drug ads' distracting music, images

"Television ads for drugs and medical devices should avoid distracting images and music that can reduce viewers' comprehension of potential side effects, U.S. regulators advised in guidelines proposed on Tuesday. Advertisements also should use similar type styles and voice-overs when conveying benefits and risks, the Food and Drug Administration said. The guidelines follow complaints that manufacturers use various techniques in their widely seen television ads and other promotions to downplay risks while emphasizing potential benefits. Leaving out or minimizing side-effect information is the most frequent violation the FDA cites in letters to companies complaining about misleading promotions. The draft guidelines advise manufacturers on how to present risk information adequately in print and broadcast promotions to consumers and doctors without running afoul of federal regulations. The guidelines are not mandatory." - Reuters

SC judge OKs settlement over James Brown estate"After years of hearings in a protracted battle over how to parcel out James Brown's wealth, a South Carolina judge approved a settlement Tuesday that gives nearly half of it to his charitable trust, about a quarter to his wife and young son, and the rest to Brown's adult children. The settlement was a contrast to the instructions spelled out in Brown's will and trust after his death on Christmas Day 2006. Some of Brown's adult children contested the bequest, claiming their father's estate was mismanaged by trustees."

Yusuf, formerly Cat Stevens, brings good vibes

It was the hottest ticket in town. Colin Farrell was there. So were Michelle Branch, Josh Groban and Chris Isaak - the latter accompanied by his manager's dog, Rodney. No, we're not talking about a Britney Spears or U2 concert. We're talking about a star-studded, invitation-only club show by Yusuf - the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens. It was the legendary folk singer's first L.A. show in 33 years, and the audience gave him a heartfelt "welcome back." He played for just over an hour: half a dozen songs from his new album, "Roadsinger," plus a few gems from the '60s and '70s. It was "Peace Train" that elicited a singalong, with the entire room participating in the song's signature hand claps. Branch, who sings backup on Yusuf's new album, admitted to getting teary-eyed. "You don't understand," she said. "I learned how to play guitar with the Cat Stevens songbook!" - CNN

Mystery Beatles lyric is a dream display at the British Library

A previously unseen George Harrison lyric, found by author and collector Hunter Davies, goes on display at the British Library. Written in early 1967 when George was aged 23 or 24, the untitled song was penned at a time when The Beatles had stopped touring to spend more time in the studio to work on what would arguably become their most famous record, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Beatles are still one of the world's greatest bands, almost 40 years after their split. Hunter Davies found the lyric during his research for a new edition of The Beatles official biography, which has just been re released more than 40 years after its original publication. In its introduction, Hunter recalls how he collected Beatles lyrics discarded as scrap paper from the floor of Abbey Road studio and kept them as souvenirs. It's almost certain that they would have been thrown out by the cleaners if he hadn't picked them up

It gives the icon back-to-back No. 1s with studio albums, as 2006's "Modern Times" also started in the penthouse. However, the latter set bowed with a much stronger number -- 192,000. "Modern" was ushered in with an Apple iTunes/iPod TV spot, which starred Dylan himself singing that album's song "Someday Baby." The Fab Faux brings the music of The Beatles to Northampton (USA)

"For starters, forget every notion you may have ever had about tribute bands. The Fab Faux don't weary goofy wigs, they don't get decked out in phony Sgt. Pepper's uniforms and they don't talk between songs with bogus British accents. But they just might be the most authentic live interpreters of the music of the Beatles on the planet. Well, perhaps other than Paul McCartney when he takes his own band on the road. The Fab Faux will be playing the Calvin Theatre in Northampton on Friday night in a show billed as "From the Cavern to the Rooftop." Led by bassist-singer Will Lee, best known for his work in the band on "The Late Show with David Letterman," and singer-guitarist-keyboardist Jimmy Vivino, a longtime member of Conan O'Brien's band, the Fab Faux formed in 1998 and have been drawing raves along with jaw-dropping looks of amazement from audiences ever since. Handel's Messiah: A Facsimile

"Marking the 250th anniversary of Handel's death, the British Library is publishing a full colour facsimile of the composer's most famous work, Messiah. Composed in the summer of 1741, Handel's original Messiah manuscript is one of the British Library's greatest treasures and the jewel in the crown of the #music collections. Consisting of 280 pages, the draft score gives a fascinating glimpse into the composer's methods, showing his frequent changes of mind and occasional frustrations in committing his ideas to paper. The British Library's full-colour reproduction brings this creative process to life, showing every pen stroke and every crayon coloured amendment"
