Lennon 'bed-in' cartoon fetches £37,250

A caricature by John Lennon of the singer and his wife, Yoko Ono, drawn during their 1969 "bed-in" in Montreal, Canada, has sold for £37,250. The piece, part of a rock and pop sale at Christie's in London, was created during their peace protest at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel

Tupac Shakur song Dear Mama to enter US archive

Recordings by late rapper Tupac Shakur, comedian Bill Cosby and rock band REM are among the latest to be preserved by the US Library of Congress. Shakur song Dear Mama, Cosby's comedy album I Started Out As A Child and REM's 1981 song Radio Free Europe will enter the National Recording Registry. Records by Little Richard, Patti Smith and Willie Nelson are also included

Michael Jackson has 'made $1bn' since his death

Michael Jackson's estate has made more than $1bn (£677m) since his death a year ago, according to estimates by trade paper Billboard. The magazine says Jackson's album sales have generated about $383m (£259m), while revenue from the film This Is It has hit nearly $400m (£271m). Profits from publishing rights, licensing and touring are also included in the total. A new recording contract is estimated to have made $31m (£21m) so far.

John Lennon's A Day in the Life lyrics sell for $1.2m

The double-sided sheet of paper with notes written in felt marker and blue ink was sold at Sotheby's in New York. The lyric sheet also contains some corrections and other notes penned in red ink. The song - co-written with Paul McCartney - is the final track on the band's 1967 Sgt Pepper album

George Best musical premieres in Belfast

A new musical about the colourful and ultimately tragic life of football legend George Best will premiere at Belfast's Grand Opera House next month. Dancing Shoes: The George Best Story, runs from 28 July to 14 August 2010 and is written by leading Irish playwrights Martin Lynch (Long Kesh) and Marie Jones (Stones in his Pockets). The music and lyrics are by Scottish singer-songwriter JJ Gilmour and Pat Gribben, a former member of Belfast pop group The Adventures. Ex-Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable has died

Former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable has been found dead at his home in south Wales. Emergency services attended Mr Cable's house at Llwydcoed near Aberdare, Cynon Valley, at 0500 BST on Monday. South Wales Police said the cause of death had not been established but there were no suspicious circumstances at this stage.

Politician demands McCartney apologise for Bush gag

An American politician is demanding Sir Paul McCartney publicly apologise for a joke he made at former President George W. Bush's expense during an appearance at the White House on Wednesday. Republican John Boehner was not amused when the former Beatle poked fun at the ex-leader's intellect as he became the first non-American to collect the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from Bush's successor, President Barack Obama. McCartney said, "After the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows where the library is."
