Our Noise: The Story of Merge Records, the Indie Label that Got Big and Stayed Small

To coincide with the 20th anniversary of Merge Records, a book is taking an in-depth look at the label's long run of mining indie-rock acts. Our Noise: The Story of Merge Records, the Indie Label that Got Big and Stayed Small, by John Cook delves into the Durham, N.C. label's extensive history. With help from label founder Mac McCaughan and Laura Balance, Cook chronicles the label whose rise brought Superchunk, Neutral Milk Hotel, Spoon and The Magnetic Fields - among dozens of others - to the uppermost levels of the independent rock world. Interviews with McCaughan and Balance as well as concert memorabilia and album-cover art are featured in the tome. Our Noise arrives in bookstores September 19 from Algonquin Books:
