Glastonbury Festival starts own record label
The Glastonbury Festival has set up his own record label. The Glastonbury Phonographic Society has been put together specifically to release classic live Glastonbury performances on CD and DVD. The first album - 'Music From Glastonbury The Film' - is the live soundtrack to the recently released Julien Temple-directed 'Glastonbury' film
Classic FM's new record label to launch first album
Classic FM's latest brand extension - a record label that backs unsigned British artists - is to launch its first album this Autumn. The debut release from Classic FM Presents… will feature British singer Alfie Boe, whose album of tenor arias will be released in early September. Classic FM Presents… will be produced in association with Sony BMG, with whom the station already works on its compilation label

Syd Barrett, founder of Pink Floyd, dies
Syd Barrett, the troubled Pink Floyd co-founder who spent his last years in reclusive anonymity, has died, the band said Tuesday. He was 60. A spokeswoman for the band said Barrett died several days ago, but she did not disclose the cause of death. Barrett had suffered from diabetes for years

Black Grooves
Indiana University's Archives of African American Music and Culture has announced a new online music initiative, furthering its mission of black arts education and promotion. Black Grooves, launched on June 1 to kick off Black Music Month 2006, is a new website that provides information on new releases and reissues in gospel, blues, jazz, funk, soul, rhythm & blues, hip hop and other popular genres, as well as classical music composed or performed by black artists. An accompanying free newsletter will be available to subscribers and also distributed to various music-related email distribution lists

Geffen Records has selected FeedBurner, a feed management provider, to manage web feeds for its artists' content, including Mary J. Blige, Lifehouse, Weezer, Snoop Dogg, Rob Zombie, and others. FeedBurner's services will provide a platform on which Geffen can launch new artists and bring fans closer to performers via music communities. Using FeedBurner's FeedFlare service, Geffen will let fans interact directly with performers' sites by rating albums at iTunes or becoming a friend of the band through MySpace. The record label also plans to reach the millions of feed subscribers available through the FeedBurner Ad Network by placing media to coincide with upcoming album launches and other promotions
