Stony Plain Records celebrates 30 years
Industry folk - along with Macleans magazine - call Holger Petersen's record label "the best small label in North America." It's the kind of plaudit that makes Petersen blush. The fact is, says Petersen, without financial whiz Alvin Jahns, Stony Plain Records would've folded up tent a long time ago, joining the dozens of blues labels that started with intent of supporting the genre, and not the bottom line. "Alvin never gets the credit that he should," says Petersen of his partner and financial officer. "But the reality is, we could've sunk several times without his financial leadership."
