Dame Vera back in the charts

"Forces sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn has became the oldest living artist to make it into the top 20 of the UK albums chart, her record company said. Dame Vera, who kept up the spirits of millions with her songs and personality during the darkest days of the Second World War, entered the album chart at number 20, at the age of 92. Her album, We'll Meet Again - The Very Best of Vera Lynn, returned her to the charts almost six decades after she topped them in the 1950s. Dame Vera said: "I am extremely excited and delighted to be back in the charts after all these years." The album features 24 songs from Dame Vera's golden years, including Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart, which was a number one hit in the US in 1952" - Yahoo

Rolling Stone Brian Jones death to be reviewed

"A police force is to review the death of Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones, 40 years since he was found lifeless in a swimming pool. Sussex Police said the force had been handed documents connected with Jones's death which would be examined, but added it was too early to say if a fresh investigation would be launched. Jones was found dead aged 27 in his swimming pool at Cotchford Farm, Hartfield, East Sussex, in July 1969. An inquest recorded a verdict of death by misadventure, but speculation has continued that he was murdered. Journalist Scott Jones, who collated the papers but is not related to the late musician, told The Mail On Sunday: "There is no time limit on the review. But after 40 years of mystery, anyone who values Brian's reputation will be happy to wait for the outcome." A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that Sussex Police received papers from an investigative journalist in relation to the death of Brian Jones. "These papers will be examined by Sussex Police, but it is too early to comment at this time as to what the outcome will be." Jones, a founder member of the Rolling Stones, was regarded to have lived a drink- and drug-fuelled lifestyle while with the band." - Yahoo

Musical 'badges' reveal personality

Dr Jason Rentfrow, of Cambridge University, said musical preferences and lists of favourite bands on profiles on social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace were "clear public statements of who we are and how we should be perceived, whether we are conscious of that or not". Sample groups of subjects regularly made the same assumptions about people's personalities, values, social class and even their ethnicity, based on their musical preferences, he said. Jazz fans were viewed as friendly, emotionally stable people with a limited sense of responsibility, while rap fans were viewed as more hostile, but energetic and athletic, the research found. Classical music was linked to white, upper-class people and rap to black or mixed-race people from lower class backgrounds - PA

MySpace to buy Web music service iLike

"News Corp's MySpace said on Thursday it has agreed to buy music recommendation service iLike, as the once-hot social networking site tries to reinvent itself as an entertainment portal. MySpace declined to disclose financial terms of an acquisition that brings iLike's twin brother founders Ali and Hadi Partovi and Nat Brown into the MySpace fold. The site was backed by venture capital funds and Ticketmaster Entertainment. Several blogs, including AllThingsDigital, reported earlier in the week that iLike would be bought by MySpace for around $20 million. iLike is best known as a popular social music discovery service on Facebook, the social networking site that has overtaken MySpace as the top Web destination for friends and family to share photos, messages, video clips and other media." - Reuters
