Life by Keith Richards

"The long-awaited autobiography of the guitarist, songwriter, singer, and founding member of the Rolling Stones. Ladies and gentleman: Keith Richards. With The Rolling Stones, Keith Richards created the songs that roused the world, and he lived the original rock and roll life. Now, at last, the man himself tells his story of life in the crossfire hurricane. Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records, learning guitar and forming a band with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones. The Rolling Stones's first fame and the notorious drug busts that led to his enduring image as an outlaw folk hero. Creating immortal riffs like the ones in "Jumping Jack Flash" and "Honky Tonk Women." His relationship with Anita Pallenberg and the death of Brian Jones. Tax exile in France, wildfire tours of the U.S., isolation and addiction. Falling in love with Patti Hansen. Estrangement from Jagger and subsequent reconciliation. Marriage, family, solo albums and Xpensive Winos, and the road that goes on forever. With his trademark disarming honesty, Keith Richard brings us the story of a life we have all longed to know more of, unfettered, fearless, and true"

A New Radio Station for London: Ronnie Scotts FM

London's favourite jazz club is turning a rather splendid 50 this year, and they have all sorts planned by way of celebration. Londonist conducted a spontaneous poll recently, and was quite scandalised by the percentage of Londoners who not only haven't visited the club, but are barely aware of its existence. At the Frith Street venue itself there are two weeks of very British sounds, reflecting the early days at Ronnie Scotts when musicians from abroad were not permitted to play. We are torn between the fun of the London Improvisers Orchestra and the jazzamatazz of the Laurence Cottle Big Band - but there are plenty of other acts to check out. There is also a photography competition, dear Flickr friends: the club is selecting a different house photographer each night - e-mail perry@ronniescotts.co.uk to apply. And then there's their new radio station: for two weeks from roundabout now you can catch them at 96.3 FM, and thereafter on-line

Beatles for sale – well their Abbey Road piano anyway

It may be covered in coffees stains and cigarette burns, but a battered old upright piano is likely to fetch £150,000 at auction because the Beatles once tinkled its ivories. The piano comes from studio three at Abbey Road, and was used by the Beatles when they worked on Paperback Writer in 1966. Eventually the piano was edited out of the released track, but it can be heard in outtakes. The auctioneers Bonhams says the piano was also used in 1969, when the track Old Brown Shoe was recorded. Bought by the studios in 1964, the piano was played by many other bands until it was retired in 1980

US judge rules against LimeWire in music piracy case

A US judge has ruled in favor of 13 music companies in a copyright case against popular online file-sharing service LimeWire. Relying heavily on a Supreme Court judgement against song-swapping service Grokster, US District Court Judge Kimba Wood found LimeWire and its owner Mark Gorton liable for copyright infringement and unfair competition. "The evidence establishes that LimeWire users directly infringed plaintiffs' copyrights, and that LimeWire engaged in purposeful conduct intended to foster that infringement," Wood said in a 59-page ruling on Tuesday that was released on Wednesday. "Free distribution of the recordings through LimeWire competes with plaintiffs' sales of the recordings," Wood said. "Accordingly, the court grants plaintiffs' motion for summary judgment on their unfair competition claim against LimeWire," she said.

Eli "Paperboy" Reed : Come And Get It

"On his major label debut, Come and Get It, Eli Reed proves to be the life of a soulful, sweaty party in which everyone eventually gets dragged onto the dance floor. As a performer, Reed approaches each song with nothing less than utter conviction; he's as authentically gritty as he is ingratiatingly sexy. Reed incorporates the feel of classic R&B and soul into a largely self-penned, 12-song set, produced with Mike Elizondo, the bassist-turned-producer whose credits include, among others, Eminem, Pink, Gwen Stefani and Fiona Apple. Admirers have likened Reed to such luminaries as Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett; the Boston Herald called him "Boston's answer to Sam Cooke." But he's not merely trying to recreate a sound; Reed is channeling his influences and inspirations into making something all his own."

Ellis, 88, died Sunday at his Los Angeles home after having suffered from Alzheimer's disease, according to his son, Mitch Ellis. Music group EMI in dire straits - AP

Struggling music group EMI faces being taken over by its bankers after failing to clinch a deal to sell the North American distribution rights for its artists to Universal Music Group or Sony Music. EMI, which has the Beatles, Coldplay, Lily Allen and Pink Floyd on its books, had hoped to raise around 200 million pounds ($304 million) by offering its rivals a five-year licensing contract. A source close to both sets of talks, who requested anonymity because the discussions were private, said Thursday that they fell apart after a failure to agree on price. EMI declined to comment. The collapse of talks leaves EMI battling to raise 120 million pounds by mid-June to meet its commitments on loans from U.S. bank Citigroup.

Organizers said a concert by Elton John in the ruins of Chichen Itza would go ahead Saturday even after the stage collapsed injuring three workers and complaints from indigenous Mayans it was irreverent and out of place. Thursday's accident, caused by a collapsing 80-meter (262-foot) metal tower, left one worker with serious leg injuries. The announcement rankled local Mayan leaders and officials, who pointed out that perhaps the accident was the work of "aluxes," the Mayan culture's equivalent of fairies, who were upset because their gods' permission for the concert was lacking
