Meanwhile thousands of fans have made the annual pilgrimage to Graceland - Presley's home in Memphis. Official events to mark his birthday include a cake-cutting ceremony, a new exhibition of his costumes, movie marathons, a Facebook application and a Jailhouse Rock Barbie. There will also be a cruise for fans later in the year.
