In 1968 Jimi Hendrix moved into the top floor flat of 23 Brook Street with his English girlfriend Kathy Etchingham. The flat is now the administrative office of Handel House Museum, and an English Heritage Blue Plaque recognises Hendrix's residence. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Hendrix's death in 1970, Handel House will be presenting a new exhibition: Hendrix in Britain. With rarely seen exhibits, images and music, the exhibition will trace his meteoric rise to fame in London and his lasting impact on rock music

Life by Keith Richards
"The long-awaited autobiography of the guitarist, songwriter, singer, and founding member of the Rolling Stones. Ladies and gentleman: Keith Richards. With The Rolling Stones, Keith Richards created the songs that roused the world, and he lived the original rock and roll life. Now, at last, the man himself tells his story of life in the crossfire hurricane. Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records, learning guitar and forming a band with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones. The Rolling Stones's first fame and the notorious drug busts that led to his enduring image as an outlaw folk hero. Creating immortal riffs like the ones in "Jumping Jack Flash" and "Honky Tonk Women." His relationship with Anita Pallenberg and the death of Brian Jones. Tax exile in France, wildfire tours of the U.S., isolation and addiction. Falling in love with Patti Hansen. Estrangement from Jagger and subsequent reconciliation. Marriage, family, solo albums and Xpensive Winos, and the road that goes on forever. With his trademark disarming honesty, Keith Richard brings us the story of a life we have all longed to know more of, unfettered, fearless, and true"

Remembering jazz singer and activist Abbey Lincoln

Katy Perry calls record label 'idiots'
"Katy Perry has slammed her record label for trying to convince her to make her music more family friendly. The California Gurls singer claimed Capitol tried to persuade her against including certain tracks on the final tracklisting for her forthcoming album Teenage Dream, for fear they were too controversial"

A New Radio Station for London: Ronnie Scotts FM
London's favourite jazz club is turning a rather splendid 50 this year, and they have all sorts planned by way of celebration. Londonist conducted a spontaneous poll recently, and was quite scandalised by the percentage of Londoners who not only haven't visited the club, but are barely aware of its existence. At the Frith Street venue itself there are two weeks of very British sounds, reflecting the early days at Ronnie Scotts when musicians from abroad were not permitted to play. We are torn between the fun of the London Improvisers Orchestra and the jazzamatazz of the Laurence Cottle Big Band - but there are plenty of other acts to check out. There is also a photography competition, dear Flickr friends: the club is selecting a different house photographer each night - e-mail perry@ronniescotts.co.uk to apply. And then there's their new radio station: for two weeks from roundabout now you can catch them at 96.3 FM, and thereafter on-line

Beatles for sale – well their Abbey Road piano anyway
It may be covered in coffees stains and cigarette burns, but a battered old upright piano is likely to fetch £150,000 at auction because the Beatles once tinkled its ivories. The piano comes from studio three at Abbey Road, and was used by the Beatles when they worked on Paperback Writer in 1966. Eventually the piano was edited out of the released track, but it can be heard in outtakes. The auctioneers Bonhams says the piano was also used in 1969, when the track Old Brown Shoe was recorded. Bought by the studios in 1964, the piano was played by many other bands until it was retired in 1980

Politician demands McCartney apologise for Bush gag
An American politician is demanding Sir Paul McCartney publicly apologise for a joke he made at former President George W. Bush's expense during an appearance at the White House on Wednesday. Republican John Boehner was not amused when the former Beatle poked fun at the ex-leader's intellect as he became the first non-American to collect the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from Bush's successor, President Barack Obama. McCartney said, "After the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows where the library is."
